All Westside Gunn Albums Ranked Best to Worst (2026)

Westside Gunn has released five studio albums, and this page ranks all five, from Flygod (2016) to And Then You Pray for Me (2023), following the studio-album list in his Wikipedia discography. His long-running Hitler Wears Hermes mixtape series, the Flygod Is an Awesome God tapes, his EPs and the Griselda group albums are not ranked, even though many fans treat the best of those tapes as essential.

Why it ranks here

Flygod is where the Griselda aesthetic came into focus. Daringer produced most of it with loops that barely move, and the rest came from Roc Marciano, Apollo Brown, Statik Selektah, the Alchemist and others. Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher are all over it, and guests from Danny Brown to Action Bronson and Mach-Hommy fit the grimy mood. In 2022 Rolling Stone placed it at No. 176 on its list of the 200 greatest hip-hop albums.

Context

His debut studio album, released March 11, 2016 on Griselda with distribution through Empire, after a run of Hitler Wears Hermes mixtapes. It was re-released on streaming services in December 2020.

Highlights

  • Dunks
  • Shower Shoe Lords
  • Bodies On Fairfax
  • Omar's Coming
  • Dudley Boyz

Weak Spots

  • Nearly an hour long, with skits and an outro that slow it down
  • Uncharted on release, so it took years to find its audience

Production

Daringer · Roc Marciano · Apollo Brown · Statik Selektah · The Alchemist

Influence

Set the template for the sparse, soul-sampled and often drumless sound that Griselda and many underground rappers followed through the late 2010s.

Replay Value

High — the Daringer loops still sound like nothing else from 2016.

Why it ranks here

Wrapped in a Virgil Abloh cover, Pray for Paris is Gunn at his most ambitious. The Alchemist, DJ Muggs, DJ Premier, Daringer and Beat Butcha supply the beats, Tyler, the Creator produces and appears, and Freddie Gibbs, Joey Bada$$ and Boldy James all deliver. Pitchfork called it his best rapping to date, and HipHopDX described it as the camp's most inviting project so far.

Context

Released April 17, 2020 on Griselda and Empire, it debuted at No. 67 on the Billboard 200, his first solo album to chart there.

Highlights

  • No Vacancy
  • George Bondo
  • 327
  • $500 Ounces
  • Shawn Vs. Flair

Weak Spots

  • The guests sometimes outshine the host
  • "Versace" is more of a mood than a song

Production

Daringer · Beat Butcha · The Alchemist · DJ Muggs · DJ Premier

Influence

Marked Griselda's arrival as a mainstream-adjacent force and helped bring Gunn's mix of luxury fashion and street rap to a wider audience.

Replay Value

Very high — forty-one minutes with almost no dead weight.

Why it ranks here

Supreme Blientele names most of its songs after wrestlers and stacks the guest list: Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Elzhi, Anderson .Paak and the full Griselda crew. The production is a step up in range, with Pete Rock, the Alchemist, Harry Fraud and 9th Wonder joining Daringer. Exclaim! gave it a 9/10, while Pitchfork's 7.1 argued that Gunn fades into the background of his own album; Metacritic averaged 69.

Context

His second studio album, released June 22, 2018 on Griselda with Empire distribution, two years after Flygod.

Highlights

  • Gods Don't Bleed
  • Brutus
  • Elizabeth
  • The Steiners
  • Wrestlemania 20

Weak Spots

  • Gunn is sometimes a guest on his own record
  • Seventeen tracks with an intro and outro

Production

Daringer · The Alchemist · Pete Rock · Harry Fraud · 9th Wonder

Influence

Its high-profile guest list showed that established rappers wanted to be part of the Griselda world.

Replay Value

High — the posse cuts carry it.

Why it ranks here

His only album through Shady and Interscope is mostly produced by Beat Butcha and Daringer, with the Alchemist, Conductor Williams and Just Blaze on the rest. Slick Rick, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes and Jadakiss add veteran star power. Metacritic averaged 76, but Pitchfork's 6.7 noted that it feels like another step in the expansion of the Griselda brand rather than a statement in its own right.

Context

Released October 2, 2020 by Griselda, Shady and Interscope, less than six months after Pray for Paris; it was not issued on physical media.

Highlights

  • The Butcher and The Blade
  • Ishkabibble's
  • All Praises
  • Ocean Prime
  • Good Night

Weak Spots

  • Few surprises after Pray for Paris
  • Gunn again cedes much of the spotlight

Production

Beat Butcha · Daringer · The Alchemist · Conductor Williams · Just Blaze

Influence

Closed the Shady chapter of Griselda's story.

Replay Value

Good — tight at forty minutes.

Why it ranks here

The sequel to Pray for Paris runs over 75 minutes and mixes Griselda boom-bap with trap, with guests from JID and Denzel Curry to Rick Ross, Giggs, EST Gee and Jeezy. Billboard called it his best solo effort and Clash praised its themes, but HipHopDX called it a mixed bag and Pitchfork described it as loud and messy; Metacritic averaged 74. It has excellent moments, but its length works against it.

Context

His fifth studio album, released October 13, 2023 on Griselda and Empire, with a Virgil Abloh cover like its predecessor. It debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200, his highest debut.

Highlights

  • Mamas PrimeTime
  • Kostas
  • 1989
  • DunnHill
  • Ultra GriZelda

Weak Spots

  • Twenty-one tracks and an hour and a quarter
  • The trap detours can feel like playlist filler

Production

Conductor Williams · Daringer · Beat Butcha · RZA · Tay Keith

Influence

Showed how far Gunn's taste had widened beyond the original Griselda sound.

Replay Value

Moderate — best in pieces.

Essay

The Complete Picture

Westside Gunn's best albums are the ones with the clearest vision: the cold, sample-heavy Flygod and the lavish, art-world Pray for Paris. Supreme Blientele is a strong middle chapter, while Who Made the Sunshine and And Then You Pray for Me are enjoyable but more like showcases for the wider Griselda roster than statements of their own.

Start with Pray for Paris for the most inviting entry point, then go back to Flygod to hear where the Griselda sound began. If you want more after that, the Hitler Wears Hermes tapes are where much of his best work lives.
