Nipsey Hussle Albums and Mixtapes Ranked (2026)

Nipsey Hussle has two studio albums to his name, one of them released after his death, and this page ranks both plus three landmark mixtapes, five projects in all: Victory Lap (2018), the posthumous Prolific with Bino Rideaux (2026), and the mixtapes The Marathon (2010), The Marathon Continues (2011) and Crenshaw (2013). Victory Lap is his only solo studio album, and Prolific is a collaborative album recorded in 2017. Not included are his other mixtapes, among them the Bullets Ain't Got No Name series, Mailbox Money and Slauson Boy 2, the compilation mixtapes, and the 2017 tape No Pressure with Bino Rideaux.

Why it ranks here

Hussle's only solo studio album arrived after thirteen years of mixtapes and several years of delays, and it sounds like a summary of everything before it: West Coast production with G-funk in its bones, and writing about ownership, patience and where he came from. It received strong reviews, with a Metacritic score of 80, and Pitchfork gave it a 7.8 and called it the most gripping record in his catalog. The Guardian praised it too, while judging that about half of it felt like padding, which is the fair criticism of an album that runs over an hour.

Context

Released February 16, 2018 through All Money In No Money Out and Atlantic, with guests including YG, Puff Daddy, Kendrick Lamar, The-Dream, CeeLo Green and Marsha Ambrosius. It debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 53,000 album-equivalent units and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. It was the last project released in his lifetime, and after his death on March 31, 2019 it reached a new peak of No. 2.

Highlights

  • Victory Lap
  • Last Time That I Checc'd
  • Dedication
  • Blue Laces 2
  • Hussle & Motivate

Weak Spots

  • Runs more than 65 minutes
  • The Guardian felt at least half the album was padding

Production

Mike & Keys · Rance · DJ Khalil · Sap · Murda Beatz

Influence

Certified double platinum by the RIAA in February 2023. It also picks up threads from the mixtapes, with sequels to two songs from The Marathon.

Replay Value

High, especially the first half.

Why it ranks here

Crenshaw is the mixtape most people mean when they talk about Nipsey Hussle before Victory Lap. It was free to download, but he also sold a first edition of 1,000 physical copies at $100 each, and it reportedly sold out in under a day. The music holds up apart from the story: XXL named it the second-best mixtape of 2013, and in 2022 Rolling Stone placed it at No. 189 on its list of the 200 greatest hip-hop albums. Hussle himself said it was made mostly of songs left over from the Victory Lap sessions, and at 21 tracks it is too long, which keeps it just under the album.

Context

His eighth mixtape, hosted by DJ Drama and released October 8, 2013 through All Money In, with guests including Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, Slim Thug, Z-Ro and James Fauntleroy. Jay-Z's Roc Nation bought 100 of the $100 copies. It peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard 200.

Highlights

  • U See Us
  • Checc Me Out
  • The Weather
  • Face the World
  • Crenshaw and Slauson (True Story)

Weak Spots

  • 21 tracks and more than 85 minutes
  • Reviews were not all positive, with RapReviews giving it 5 out of 10

Production

The Futuristiks · 1500 or Nothin' · 9th Wonder · DJ Dahi · Ralo Stylez

Influence

XXL wrote that the $100 edition, part of his Proud2Pay campaign, changed the course of hip-hop releases, and the move drew praise from Jay-Z and E-40.

Replay Value

Good, though better trimmed to its strongest dozen songs.

Why it ranks here

The Marathon is the first major project Hussle released through his own label, All Money In, at the time he was leaving Epic Records, and it gave his whole career its name and its central idea. The tape presents itself as a statement of independence from a label system that had kept his debut on hold for more than two years. XXL ranked it the 49th best mixtape of 2010 and praised the way it recalled an earlier era of West Coast rap. It is rougher than what came later, but two of its songs were strong enough to get sequels on Victory Lap.

Context

Released December 21, 2010 as a free download and on iTunes, through Cinematic Music Group and All Money In, with guest appearances from Kokane and MGMT. It reached No. 179 on the Billboard 200 in 2019, after his death.

Highlights

  • Keys 2 the City
  • Blue Laces
  • Mr. Untouchable
  • A Million
  • Love?

Weak Spots

  • 18 tracks with uneven production
  • Little documented critical coverage compared with the later projects

Production

Big K.R.I.T. · Ralo Stylez · Mr. Lee · Cookin' Soul · Ryan Leslie

Influence

It started the Marathon series and the marathon theme that ran through his later music and his Marathon Clothing store.

Replay Value

Good for the key songs, moderate as a full tape.

Why it ranks here

The follow-up is the more consistent of the two Marathon tapes: 14 tracks in 49 minutes, with 1500 or Nothin' handling most of the production and only a few guests. It was received well, with XXL giving it an XL rating and The Source reviewing it positively, and both reviews treated it as a strong argument for the debut album that was still to come. It ranks just below the first tape because it adds less to the story and has fewer songs that outlasted it.

Context

Released November 1, 2011 through All Money In as a free download and on iTunes, with guest appearances from Dom Kennedy and YG. One track samples a speech by Steve Jobs of Apple. Leftover songs from the sessions came out in February 2012 as TMC: X-Tra Laps.

Highlights

  • Road To Riches
  • Who Detached Us
  • Run A Lap
  • Rose Clique
  • Tha Mansion

Weak Spots

  • Fewer memorable songs than the first Marathon
  • Reads as a holding move while the debut album was delayed

Production

1500 or Nothin' · THC · Wizzo · Mistah Mota

Influence

Four of its songs were released as singles in September 2013 to promote Crenshaw, a sign of how long the tape stayed in circulation.

Replay Value

Good. It is short and even.

Why it ranks here

Prolific is the first posthumous Nipsey Hussle album, a collaborative record with Bino Rideaux that was recorded in 2017, the same year the two released the mixtape No Pressure. Its 15 tracks run about 48 minutes, with guests including Ty Dolla $ign, Cardi B, Leon Thomas, James Fauntleroy and Buddy. Because it is shared material from one period rather than a solo album he shaped and finished himself, it is ranked last here. This placement is provisional.

Context

Released August 14, 2026 through All Money In and Atlantic, more than seven years after his death, and credited to Nipsey Hussle and Bino Rideaux. It peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on the Top Rap Albums chart, and "Reckless" was released as a single.

Highlights

  • Reckless
  • 500 Horses
  • Sacrifices
  • Vibe With Me
  • I Just Wanna Know

Weak Spots

  • A collaborative album, so he shares the space throughout
  • Vault material released nine years after it was recorded

Influence

Too recent to judge. It is the first full album of his recordings to be released since 2018.

Replay Value

Moderate. Most rewarding for listeners who already know the mixtapes.

Scores come from each album’s scorecard review. A score marked ~ is an editorial estimate for an album we have not reviewed in full yet. Albums are ranked by score; ties keep our editorial order.

Essay

The Complete Picture

Victory Lap is the best Nipsey Hussle project, the album a decade of mixtapes had been building toward and the only solo studio album he released. Crenshaw is the essential mixtape, as important for how it was sold as for what is on it, and the two Marathon tapes are where he set out the independent approach he became known for. Prolific, recorded in 2017 and released in 2026, is a welcome addition for existing fans more than a starting point.

Start with Victory Lap, then go back to Crenshaw.
